How to Make Piping

Hi! Here is the third part in my reupholstering adventure! After this we move on to the parts that are a bit more challenging.

This part is How to Make the Piping. I got lucky on this part since I am refinishing a love seat and it is not wider than 50" I was able to use the width of my upholstery fabric [which was 54"] to cut strips - easy peasy.
Incase you missed the first few steps you can check them out here:
The steps all together are:
Reupholstering

I started with upholstery cord - I found it at Joanns - it was only $0.65/yard and I had a coupon.
[Joanns has a very tiny upholstery section but luckily they had everything I needed plus with coupons and all of their crazy sales the prices were hard to beat]

I took note of where the piping was used originally and measured those areas out, it was a bit less than 10 yards.

Then I cut 1.5" strips of fabric and placed the cording agains the wrong side of the fabric in the middle.

I pinned every three inches or so just to make sure it stayed together and even while sewing.

**Put the Zipper Foot on the machine - there is a piping/cording foot but it is almost identical**
Just incase you are not sure what foot that is - it looks like this:

Next, moved the needle position all the way to the left to help get as close to the cord as possible while sewing to create a tight casing.
Now begin to sew and sew and sew...

When it is done it will look like this:

Easy right? :) Now just set that aside so that it is ready for when you start the actual reupholstering!
